Hurry Up & Wait!

One of the first things you will learn by being on set is that there is a lot of "Hurry up and Wait." You may not fully understand what this means until your first time on set, but it's an inevitable part of this business.

You have an early call time and you are rushing through traffic, circling the block finding the crew sign for parking, toting your suitcase full of wardrobe options, and running to beat the clock to make it to check in at your assigned call time! We check you in, fill out paperwork, send you through wardrobe for checks/changes and then you rush to get in your selected wardrobe for the first scene .... whew! It's been a whirlwind that first hour you are on set. But you are ready to go..... and now you wait .... and wait .... and wait.... eat a banana from craft service and drink a bottle of water.... and wait some more.... check your emails ... post on facebook and instagram .... wait .... send out a few twitter posts .... grab some crackers from craft service... wait ... other extras go to set .... you wait .... snap chat, another twitter post .... wait ... break for lunch ..... WHAT??

I just walked you through an all too common scenario for a day on set. The glitz and glamour aren't abounding when you are on set filming. (That comes later!)

It's just a part of the biz. There is no point in complaining, you won't fix it or make it go faster. Just make sure you bring things to entertain yourself, meet some new friends, and enjoy the intricate process of film-making from behind the scenes.
